Thunder Bay police officer's gun, ammunition stolen

A police-issued Glock 26 handgun, along with three magazines of ammunition, were stolen from a Thunder Bay police officer's car on the weekend.

An intense search for a police-issued pistol that was stolen this weekend is underway in Thunder Bay.

The Glock 26, along with three magazines of ammunition, were in a backpack investigators say was taken from an officer's personal vehicle.

The theft occurred sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday.

The backpack is described as being red and white with "Word Health" on the front pocket.

The Thunder Bay Police Service is asking that the firearm and the ammunition be turned into the police.

"Our goal is to safely secure this weapon and ammunition. Please help in getting this gun off the street," Chris Adams of the Thunder Bay Police Service said in a media release.

Police had no additional information Monday morning.
