Thunder Bay to sign agreement with Horizon Wind

Thunder Bay city councillors will look at extending an agreement with the province Monday evening, so Horizon Wind can have access to land needed to build the Big Thunder Wind Farm.

Thunder Bay city councillors will look at extending an agreement with the province Monday evening, so Horizon Wind can have access to land needed to build the Big Thunder Wind Farm.

The city will charge Horizon about $1,200 to use a roadway to access thearea where the farm willbe built. The developer will also have to pay the citya rent of $25,000for the land where the turbines will be placed. The developers first payment is due Sept. 1.

The company has told the city it intends to submit an environmental application to the province within a few weeks. E-mails between the city and Horizon said the company has "completed consultations with the First Nations during the past year."

Horizon has until September of 2014 to build a wind turbine, or the city will terminate the agreement.
