City issues building permit for structural steel portion of Prince Arthur's Landing hotel

The City of Thunder Bay has issued a building permit for the structural steel portion of the Marriott-Delta Hotel at Prince Arthur's Landing, allowing development on the project to resume.

"Construction of the waterfront hotel is one step closer," said Mark Smith, the city's general manager of development and emergency servicesin a media release sent out late Wednesday afternoon. "We will be very pleased to see the hotel development get back underway, with completion planned for the end of next year."

Contracting company Pomerleau is handling the hotel's construction.

The project has been sitting idle for the last year due to the takeover ofDelta Hotels by Marriott Hotels. That led to further discussions between the city and project developer ReSolve Group.

The hotel was originally expected to be opened by spring of 2016.

An agreement between the city and developer states the hotel must be completed by April 2017.
