Two new wind farms planned near Thunder Bay

Two rural areas northwest of Thunder Bay could soon host new wind farms.

Toronto-based Gilead Power Corporation plans to build a 130 megawatt wind farm near highway 102, in Oliver and Ware Townships.

The farm would sit on 1,200 hectares of land, leased from the Crown and private landholders.

The developer has dubbed it the 'Murillo project' and wants to start construction in 2013.

One resident in the area said she was offered four-dollars-an-acre for her property for use as an easement.

The other proposed project is in Lappe.It wouldsit on about 400 hectares of private land. That wind farm is expected to produce 74 megawatts of electricity and could start construction in 2014.
