Victim dies after weekend assault

The 21-year-old man involved in an assault at the Limbrick housing complex has died.
Thunder Bay police say the victim and the accused were known to each other.

The 21-year-old man involved in a weekend assault at the Limbrick housing complex has died.

Jimmy Robert Monias passed away around 7:30 p.m. on October 30.

Thunder Bay Police said Monias had a serious head injury and was in critical condition before his death.

The charges against 22-year-old Kyle Ivan Rae will now change from what was originally laid, said police spokesperson Chris Adams.

"This now changes obviously the investigation, and the charge of aggravated assault is expected to be upgraded at some point," he said.

Adams noted that alcohol was a factor in the assault. A post mortem will take place in Toronto later this week.

Rae remains in custody in the Thunder Bay District Jail.
