211 vehicles towed in downtown Toronto over 3-day period

Toronto police say they towed away 211 vehicles between Monday and Wednesday, as they began acclimatizing downtown drivers to the reality of a tag-and-tow policy during rush hour.

Tag-and-tow policy to be enforced regularly during rush hour

Toronto police say they towed away 211 vehicles between Monday and Wednesday, as they began acclimatizing downtown drivers to the reality of a tag-and-tow policy during rush hour.

A news release says that in total, police ticketed 1,503 vehicles while enforcing rush-hour regulations over that three-day period. On Wednesday alone, 54 vehicles were towed and 424 parking tags were issued.

It's all part of a push to ensure traffic is moving as smoothly as possible and an approach that Mayor John Tory had touted on the campaign trail last year.

Police say their efforts this week are not part of a temporary blitz, but a strategy they will be employing on an ongoing basis to crack down on illegal parking during rush hour.
