3 burned bodies found in car near Barrie

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after the remains of three people were found in a burned-out car near Barrie, Ont.

A country road outside of Barrie, Ont. remains closed for a police investigationafter the remains of three people were found in a burned-out car.

Early Friday morning fire crews were called to the scene of a vehicle fire onHolickRoad north of the 4th Line ofOro-MedonteTownship, some 80 kilometres north of Toronto.

Once the fire was out, investigators found human remains inside.

The vehicle and its contents have since been sent to Toronto for forensic investigation and postmortems.A charred patch of asphalt marks the scene of the intense blaze.

Police say the autopsy results could take until next week. In the meantime, they'recalling on the public for help.

"We're askinganybody that saw anythingsuspicious or unusual in area of Hollick Road on the third or fourth of July to come forward," saidConst. Graham Knox of the Ontario Provincial Police. Witnesses should call the Barrie detachment of the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Police have released few other details, but confirmed to CBC News that the case is not connected with that of thethree family members who went missingearlier this week in Calgary.

The same location has been the scene of a criminal investigation before when, in 2002, a Toronto couple were found dead in a field just off the road. They had been beaten and shot.

People in the area say the road, though isolated, is easily accessed from the highway and back road.

"That lane down there, it's remote, it's isolated and that why it's been used in the past," saidDave Hayes, manager of a nearby drive-in theatre.
