Becel Ride for Heart shuts down Gardiner, DVP on Sunday

Getting around the city this weekend was a bit of a challenge for subway riders and drivers.

DVP closure, subway work and Pan Am torch relay caused a challenge for those navigating the city this weekend

Getting around the city this weekend wasa bit of a challenge for subway riders and drivers.

DVP

The annual BecelHeart & Stroke Ride for Heart charity event forced some road closures around the city on Sunday.

The Gardiner Expressway wasclosed from Carlaw Avenue to the Humber Bridge. And the DVP wasclosed from Highway 401 all the way south to the Gardiner.

The closures extended from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m ET.

About 14,000 cyclists were expected to participate in the ride, which startedand finishedat Exhibition Place.

Last year's event raised nearly $6million for heart and stroke research.

Subway

There is no subway service between St.Clair West and Downsview stations this weekendwhile the TTC conducts rail and signal work.

Waterfront

There was alsocongestion around the waterfront when the Pan Am flame arrivedat Harbourfront Centre Saturday.

The first torchbearer of the 41-day relay left from Harboufront and the flame wascarried east on Queens Quay East, northon Yonge Street, then easton Front Street to the Distillery District.

Col. ChrisHadfieldarrived with the torch atthe DistilleryDistrictaround 5 p.m., and festivities werescheduled to end around 6:30 p.m.
