Child's body found in dumpster at Rosedale construction site, police sources say

A body found in a dumpster at construction site in Toronto's Rosedale neighbourhood was that of a child, police sources tell CBC News.

Toronto police were called to the scene in theCastle Frank Road and Dale Avenue area,north of Bloor Street East on Monday around 4:45 p.m.

Investigators have not yet confirmed the victim's exact age or sex, Const. Laura Brabant said.

The death is being considered "suspicious," police said in a tweet,but hasn't been deemed ahomicidepending autopsy results.

Ruben Shiffman has been living in the neighbourhoodfor about 20 years and said he's never seen something like this happen.

Shiffman said there was a large police presence Monday, and that the property where the dumpster was located had been under renovations for several years.

"Nobody knew what was going on. Lots of neighbours were asking questions," he said.

Officers are now canvassing the area, calling on anyone with information, surveillance video or dashcam footage to contact them.

"If youwitnessed anything, even if it seems very small to you it could mean a lot to us, so please contact investigators," Brabant said.
