A 14-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter in the shooting of a Toronto teenager on the holiday weekend.

The teenager was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Tifow didn't live in the building where he was shot, but at a different apartment building on the other side of the Humber River.

On Tuesday, police said they had made an arrest in Tifow's death.

A 14-year-old boy faces a single charge of manslaughter. Because of his age, the accused cannot be publicly identified.

Police are crediting the public for coming forward to help with the investigation, which has led to charges being laid quickly.

CBC News has learned that there were a number of young people in the apartment on the night that Tifow died and that the shooting appeared to have been accidental. Police have recovered the gun that killed the teenager.

Tifow came from a family of five boys.

"His mom, the family, all of them are good peopleit's unfortunate what happened here," family friend Abdi Ali told CBC News in an interview on Tuesday.

Ali said that Yusuf's death has left his family and the community reeling.

"This tragedyI cannot talk, I do not know what to say."
