Pregnant Pickering woman suffered 'sharp force trauma' before she died

The pregnant woman who was found dead in a Pickering home Friday evening suffered "sharp force trauma" before she died, police revealed Monday.

The update came hours after Toronto police descended on a residential street in the Beaches neighbourhood after a parking enforcement officerlocated a car Durham policehad been looking for in connection with the woman's death.

On Friday night, Durham police found the body of Arianna Goberdhan, 27,with "obvious signs of trauma" in ahomeonWinvilleRoad, nearTauntonandBrockRoads, in Pickering. Police were called to the residence for a domestic disturbance.

Her husband,Nicholas TylerBaig, 25, was arrested Saturday evening after a day-long search and charged with second-degree murder.

On Monday, Const. George Tudos, spokesperson for theDurham Regional Police Service, said an autopsy confirmed that Goberdhandied from sharp force trauma from an object, but he declined to say what it was.

Police previously said Goberdhan'sunborn baby did not survive.

Around 5 a.m. Monday, Toronto police located the 2015 black four-door Infiniti sedan on Lee Avenue, off of Queen Street East, that investigators said their suspect was last seen driving, according to CBC Toronto video producer Tony Smyth.

The car was sealed with evidence tags and towed away from the scene, Smyth reported.

Baig appeared in court on Sunday via video link. He was remanded into custody and is due back in court on April 13, Tudos told CBC Toronto.

He added that investigators will meet with the Crown to discuss the chargeagainst Baig, but would not say if the charge could be upgraded or if additional charges are possible.
