Car ruled out in fatal home invasion

York Regional Police have ruled out a car they thought might have been used by three men who killed a woman in a violent home invasion in Markham, Ont., on Monday night.

York Regional Police have ruled out a car they thought might have been used by three men who killed a woman in a violent home invasion in Markham, Ont., on Monday night.

Police had released a grainy surveillance video Tuesday showing a vehicle parked outside the home on Helen Avenue, near Highway 407 and Kennedy Road, north of Toronto.

Theyissued a release Wednesday saying they believed the silver Acura mighthave been used in the getaway and provided a detailed description.

Buton Wednesday evening, police said the Acura's owner, who had seen news reports about the case, contacted them and has been ruled out as a suspect.

Police are still searching for the three assailants whoentered the home andshot Bich-Ha Pan, 53, and her husband, Huei Hann Pan, 57, several timesbefore scouringthehouse for valuables. The couple's 24-year-old daughter was separated from them and tied up in another room, police said.

Bich-Ha Pan died at the scene, while Huei Hann Pan is in serious condition in hospital. Their daughter was not hurt.

Police have released thesedescriptions of the intruders:

  • A black man between 28 and 35years old, five feet six inches tallor 5-7, with a medium build. He has long dreadlocks and wore dark clothing.
  • A blackman around 31, five feet seven inchestall or 5-8, with athin build. His face was covered by a bandana and he wore a dark hooded sweatshirt.
  • A man with a thin build who spoke with a Caribbean accent.
