Parents, 3 children injured after driver hits family of pedestrians in Etobicoke

A family of five pedestrians were struck by a driver in anEtobicokecrosswalkon Wednesday, leaving a 39-year-old woman in critical conditionwhile a man and their three children were also injured.

A family of five pedestrians wasstruck by a driver in anEtobicokecrosswalkon Wednesday, leaving a 39-year-old woman in critical conditionwhile a man and their three children were also injured.

The collision happened around 6:10 p.m. at the corner of IslingtonAvenue and Finchley Road, police said in a news release Thursday.

The driver, a 77-year-old woman, was westbound on Finchleywhen she made a left turn to go southbound on Islington, according to police.

The family was in the crosswalk, heading east on Islington, when she struck them, police said.

The woman and aman, 45, and the couple's three children girls aged four and one, and a one-month old boy were all taken to hospital for treatment. Police described the woman's injuries as life threatening.

The driver remained on scene and spoke with investigators, police said.

Investigators are appealing for anyone else who saw the collision or has dash cam video to contact traffic services.
