David Soknacki has registered to run for mayor in October.

David Soknacki is officially running for mayor in this fall's municipal election.

Among the 19 candidates registered so far, Soknacki, a former councillor and city budget chief, is the most high-profile candidate to file papers to challenge Rob Ford for his job.

Toronto is facing serious challenges,"said Soknacki, who added he was focusing on openness and accountability. "We need to have level-headed, practical leadership if we are going to take them on and change our city for the better.

"I want this job. I want this job with all my heart. We can do better."

Ford wasted no time in registering for the election, which he did last Thursday the first day that it was possible to do so.

The City of Torontos website has an application listing all of the candidates who have registered to run in the 2014 municipal election, which is still nearly 10 months away.

Ford is one of 18 candidates who have registered so far.

Soknacki was asked, jokingly, if he had ever smoked crack-cocaine, a reference to the ongoing drug scandal with the current mayor.
"No, I'm not nearly that interesting," he said.
