Electronic dance music star Deadmau5 was moonlighting on the streets of Toronto Wednesday night to help promote a new service being offered by the taxi-alternative company Uber.

The controversial company recently launched its uberX service in Toronto, which offers rides that are up to 40 per cent cheaper than traditional cab fare.

Drivers who meet Uber's safety standards and pass a background check can sign up to join the uberX service, with the company taking a cut of their fares.

Deadmau5 was cruising Toronto for fares as an uberX driver Wednesday, and according to photos posted to Twitter, picked up at least two riders.

His car would stand out on Toronto's streets he has a McLaren 650S, a luxury European sports car.

This is not the first time Deadmau5 has been in the driver seat for rides around the city. A recent passenger was Toronto mayor Rob Ford in a YouTube segment called Coffee Run, in which the musician drives guests to get coffee.
