COVID-19 dos and don'ts: Do use hand sanitizer, don't stockpile toilet paper

With all that'scirculating online about the COVID-19 pandemic, it can be hard to tellmisinformation from reality.

That's why CBC Toronto askedYork University biology professor Dawn Bazely to talk tous about stockpiling toilet paper, using hand sanitizer,and when masks are appropriate.

Bazely, armed with some trusty props, responded by debunkingsome of the myths surrounding the novel coronavirus.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, coronavirus spreads most commonly from an infected person through:

• respiratory droplets generated when you cough or sneeze
• close, prolonged personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands
• touching something with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose or eyes before washing your hands

Current evidence suggests person-to-person spread is can happen when there is close contact.
