Security guard shot outside Drake's mansion in stable condition

A security guard who was critically injured after a shooting outside Canadian rap star Drake's Toronto mansionlast week is now in stable condition, police say.

A security guard who was critically injured after a shooting outside Canadian rap star Drake's Toronto mansionlast week is now in stable condition, police say.

Officers were called to the property on on Park Lane Circle on May 7, shortly after 2 a.m. ET, after a security guard had been shot near a gate in front of the propertyin an apparent drive-by shooting.

"He was shot from a vehicle which then fled the scene," the Toronto Police Service said in a media release at the time.

A police source previously told CBC News that the security guardsuffered a gunshot wound to the upper chest and wasunconscious when officers arrived.He was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery, according to the source.

On Tuesday, police spokesperson Const. Laurie McCann confirmed to CBC News that the victim is now in stable condition.

Investigators previously said theycouldn't confirm whether Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, was home at the time of the shooting.The man who was shot has not been identified and Drake has not spoken publicly about the incident.

Toronto police Insp. Paul Krawczykpreviously told reportersthat a suspect or suspects involved in the shooting fled the scene in a vehicle, adding that police are continuing to reviewvideo footage. One week after the incident, investigators have not yet released any suspect images or description.

Drake is currently embroiled in a number of high-profile feuds with other rappers and musicalartists. The most notable is anongoing dispute with the California rapper Kendrick Lamar, which hit a fever pitch two weeks ago as both released multiple tracks that levelled unsubstantiated allegations and insults at each other.

Krawczykpreviously told reporters that he was aware of the conflict, but it was too early to speculate on a motive for the shooting.
