Eaton Centre shooting witness testifies in court

A man who was with his daughter in the Eaton Centre food court during a deadly shooting in 2012 testified Wednesday that the experience greatly affected him afterward.

Witness recounts Eaton Centre shooting

A man who was with his daughter in the Eaton Centre food court during a deadly shooting in 2012 testified Wednesday that the experience greatly affected him afterward.

"It's just emotional right now," said Elvis Fraser after testifying at the trial of Christopher Husbands.

Husbandshas admittedresponsibility for the shooting, but has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, claiming he did not go to the mall intending to kill anyone.

On June 2, 2012, Fraser took his daughter shopping at the Eaton Centre. The pair was in the food court when Husbands opened fire, hitting Nixon Nirmalendran and Ahmed Hassan. Hassan died on the scene, while Nirmalendransuccumbed to his injuries days later.

His daughter called 911, while Fraser tried to comfort the woundedNirmalendran.

Fraser said in court that after the shooting his "nervous system was shot. I was crying non-stop. I couldn't stay in my apartment by myself."

Other witnesses to the shooting will testify over the next several days.
