Environment Canada confirms 2nd tornado hit East Garafraxa

Environment Canada says a second tornado touched down in an area west of Orangeville during the violent storms that swept across much of southern Ontario on Sunday.

Tornado caused some damage to rural township

Environment Canada says a second tornado touched down in an area west of Orangeville during the violent storms that swept across much of southern Ontario on Sunday.

The weather agency had already confirmed a tornado in the community of Teviotdale, northwest of Kitchener, which tore the roof off a home, collapsed walls, downed power lines and damaged several police cars.

But the agency says another tornado hit the township of East Garafraxa, causing some damage.

It was rated as an EF-1 tornado, with winds of up to 175 kilometres per hour and a damage path of about two kilometres by 500 meters.

Environment Canada says the damage in the community included an overturned feed barn, some damage to barns and a house and snapped trees.

The agency calls Sunday's storms the most significant severe weather outbreak of the summer in Ontario
