Etobicoke ward election results: Amber Morley upsets Mark Grimes in EtobicokeLakeshore
Vince Crisanti wins in Etobicoke North while Stephen Holyday cruises to re-election
Amber Morley, in what could be the biggest upset in Monday's municipal election, has beaten incumbent Mark Grimes in Etobicoke-Lakeshore.
But it's not a total surprise.
Morley narrowly lost to Grimes in the last election in 2018, and won endorsements from a number of organizations in this year's race.
On Monday night, the candidate was already celebrating her victory following a long campaign.
Morley previously told CBC's Shawn Jeffords she's hoping her win will be the start to creating a more diverse city council.
"As someone who's grown up as a low-income person, as a racialized person, often, we don't see ourselves reflected in those systems," she said.
"I hope that my participation helps people like me see themselves in the [political]process."
Stephen Holydaywon in EtobicokeCentre and Vince Crisanti, the former councillor, is heading back to city hall after winning in Etobicoke North.
