Fifth arrest made in Markham home invasion

Police said Wednesday they have made a fifth arrest in connection with a deadly home invasion north of Toronto late last year.

York Regional Police said they have charged Lenford Roy Crawford, 28, of Brampton with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the Nov. 8, 2010, home invasion and homicide in Markham.

Police charged Jennifer Pan, 24, of Markham, in late November with murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of her mother and attempted murder of her father.

Bich-Ha Pan, 53, was shot during the invasion and died at the scene. Her husband, Huei Hann Pan, 57, was also shot several times but survived. He continues to recover at an undisclosed location.

Last month Eric Carty, 31, was arrested at the Maplehurst Correctional Complex, where he was already in custody. David Mylvaganam, 22, was arrested in the Jane and Finch area in Toronto in April as well.

Daniel Chi-Kwong Wong, 25, of Ajax is also in custody.

Pan is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on May 9. Police said they expect further arrests.

Police sources told CBC earlier that the daughter is alleged to be the mastermind behind the killing. Police refused to comment on a possible motive.

According to police, they believe three individuals entered the Pan home through the front door around 10:30 p.m. ET, shot Bich-Ha Pan and her husband several times before looking for cash and valuables.

In the aftermath of the invasion, police suspected it was a random attack but revised the assessment and directed their investigation at the daughter.
