Councillors say the eastern Gardiner Expressway is anything but certain one day after the vote

Less than 24 hours after city council approved the "hybrid" option for the Gardiner Expressway's future, several councillors warned it's far from a done deal.

Coun. Pam McConnell, one of the most outspoken critics against the "hybrid" highway, which will leave more of the eastern Gardiner intact, blasted the plan again on Friday.

"I'm not convinced that what we had before us at council yesterday can ever be built, or will ever be built," McConnell told CBC News.

Councillors who voted for the hybrid plan, meanwhile, lashed out at McConnell and other critics, telling her to respect council's decision.

"It's my hope thatmemebersof council would not beobstructionistor reckless because any delay could cost millions," said Coun.DenzilMinnan-Wong.

A detailed design for the Gardiner plan will be prepared for 2018, with construction set to get underway by 2019.
