Firefighters rescue mother, child from Toronto highrise fire

Toronto firefighters have rescued a mother and her three-year-old child from a fire in a Thorncliffe Park highrise apartment building.

Toronto firefighters have rescued a mother and her three-year-old child from a fire in a Thorncliffe Park highrise apartment building.

Fire officials say they were called to the scene onThorncliffe Park Drive near West Don River Trailjust before 11 a.m.According to police, there were reports ofblack smoke in the hallway of the 16th floor of the building.

Fire crews reached the pair on an apartment balcony where they tried toescape from the smoke. Firefighters provided them with oxygen once they were reached.

Fire crews knocked down the two-alarm fire at around 11:15 a.m. andaddedno one was seriously injured in the blaze.
