Hikers rescued from Scarborough Bluffs in sweltering heat

Toronto Fire crews used a rope to pull three people to safety after the they were stranded on the Scarborough Bluffs just after noon Monday.

Toronto Fire crews used a rope to pullthree people to safety after the theywere stranded on theScarborough Bluffs just after noon Monday.

It happened at Rosetta McClain Gardens at Kingston Road and Glen Everest Road.

Capt.David Eckerman from Toronto Fire Service says the group was walking down atrail for about 40 minutes when they detoured onto another trail andgot stuck.

Fire crews tracked down the hikers using camera images from a helicopterandcell phone signals. One of the three also had a whistle.

Crews located the group about 20 minutes after the initial call. They used arope, tripod and bolt cutters to hoistthem up to safety.

Paramedics attended to the three females who were rescued. There were no injuries. (John Hanley )

No one suffered serious injuries, but with a heat warning in effect one of the hikers reported feeling dehydrated. Another suffered an allergic reaction.
