Jeremy Cook, teen shot over cellphone, laid to rest in Brampton

The 18-year-old shot dead in London, Ont., while trying to retrieve his lost cellphone was laid to rest today in his hometown of Brampton.

Jeremy Cook, the 18-year-old shot dead in London, Ont.,while trying to retrieve his lost cellphone,was laid to rest today in his hometown of Brampton.

His funeral was held at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church.

"In the midst of dealing with the painful loss of Jeremy, we've been strengthened by the tremendous outpouring of support and sympathy from so many people over the past week," said Maureen DiIorio in a statement on behalf of the family. "It is clear to us that Jeremy made a profound impact in his short time with us. His legacy will live on through the memories and relationships that he developed with so many wonderful family and friends."

Cook was shot to death last weekendafter he used an app totrack the cellphone he left ina taxito an address in the north end of London, police say.

When Cookand a relative went to the address, he was confronted by three men in a car.

Police said Cook tried to retrieve his phone, but the vehicle began to drive away, prompting him to grab on to the driver's side door. That's when the fatal gunshots were fired, police said.

London police sayMuhab Sultanaly Sultan, 23, of Calgaryis wanted for second-degree murder and remains at large.

Police are also looking for a second suspect,described as:

  • A black male.
  • Having very short hair.
  • Last seen wearing a black jacket or shirt, and a fitted cap.

A third man, who exited the vehicle just before the shooting, is being asked to contact police and identify himself.
