Mammoliti enters race to replace Miller

City councillor Georgio Mammoliti has become the second person to officially enter the race for mayor of Toronto.

City councillor Giorgio Mammoliti has become the second person to officially enter the race for mayor of Toronto.

Mammoliti filed the necessary papers on Tuesday.

The councillor, who represents Ward 7 in the city's west end, made known his intention to seek the mayor's office last year.

"I think I'm the one to bring ... change to city hall," Mammoliti said.

Mammoliti promises to get tough on crime, as well as to tackle the city's ballooning budget.

One way to fight the deficit, he suggests, is to put a casino in the city.

"A casino can bring us up to $300 million a year and we need to think seriously about whether we want to increase our property taxes in the city to double digits ...Casinos make sense," he said.

On Monday former federal Liberal strategist Rocco Rossi became the first to enter the race.

The Oct. 25 contest is expected to attract some big names too.

Former Ontario Liberal cabinet minister George Smitherman says he will enter the race. It's also expected former Ontario Conservative leader John Tory will make a second run for the mayor's job.
