'Suspicious' death probe launched after man collapses in downtown elevator

Toronto police are investigating after a man collapsed and died in an elevator at a downtown condo on Friday morning.

Police were called to Adelaide Street West and Widmer Street just after 6 a.m.

Toronto police are investigating a man's death as a suspected drug overdose after he collapsed in an elevator at a downtown condo on Friday morning.

Police were called to the area of Adelaide Street West and WidmerStreet just after 6 a.m.

A man and his friend were in an elevator with at least two other people when the man collapsed and was reported to be blue in the face, Const.AllysonDouglas-Cook told CBC Toronto.

One of the people in the elevator phoned police, while the second person performed CPR on the man, who was unresponsive, she said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Toronto paramedics.
