Man in 30s in serious condition after being shot at Shops at Don Mills plaza

A man is in serious condition after being shot in front of the Jack Astor's at the Shops at Don Mills plaza on Sunday at about 3:00 p.m.

Witnesses say they saw a fight before hearing gunshots

A man in his 30s is in serious condition after being shot at a shopping complex at LawrenceAve East and Don Mills Road on Sunday afternoon.

Employees at a South St. Burger Co. restaurant said they saw a fight break outin front of the JackAstor'sin the Shops at Don Mills complexat about 3p.m.

One of the employees, Jennifer Sharpe, saidshe was on her way to lunch when she noticed some commotion. When she returned, a co-worker told her it was a two-on-one fight outside the restaurant.

Back inside, Sharpe said sheand her colleagues heard a "pop."

"Good thing I decided not go into JackAstor's," she said.

Danyel Kousious waspushing buggies at the nearby Metro grocery storewhen he says he heard two shots.

"It sounded like a capgun at first, but then I heard a couple of screams," Kousious said, adding that he saw a few people running and some cars speeding away.

Toronto police said they were called to the plaza after the victim walked into abusiness, saying he had been shot and was looking for help.

A suspect vehicle, described as a dark-coloured sedan, was last seen heading southbound on Don Mills, police said. (CBC)

Police also said there were other calls around the same time for shots being fired in the area.

"Given the time of day, being a shopping area it's obviously very concerning,"Const.AllysonDouglas-Cooksaid.

Paramedics told CBC News the man wastransported to a trauma centre.

Asuspect vehicle,described as a dark-coloured sedan, was lastseen headingsouthbound on Don Mills, police said.
