Toronto police say Markham home searched on Saturday is synthetic drug lab

Toronto police say a home in Markham from which officers removed hazardous materials Saturday is a synthetic drug lab.

Police won't say if arrests made, charges laid or what kinds of drugs may have been produced in home

Several containers of hazardous material were removed from a home in a quiet, residential neighbourhood in Markham, where Toronto police executed a search warrant on Saturday. (CBC)

Const. Caroline de Kloetsays Toronto Police Service searched the two-storeyhome near Kennedy Road and Denison Street with the help of York Regional Police Service.

On Saturday afternoon, policewearing hazmatsuitswere seen removing glass beakers andfive-gallon plastic containers from the home. Neighbourssaid it was occupied by three men and that construction equipment could often be seen on the driveway.

DeKloet could not confirmif any arrests were or any charges were laid. She also could not say which kinds of synthetic drugs were produced in the home.

She did say Toronto police were acting on a search warrant and enlisted the help of York Regional Police because the home home is located in York Region.

"We held the house," said Const. Jay Kimber,spokesperson for York Regional Police'sMarkhamdistrict.

The investigation is now a joint one, De Kloet said. Police are expected to provide an update on the investigation later this week.

The Toronto Police Service's Chemical Biological RadiologicalNuclear Explosives Team was involved in the search of the home. The Forensic Identification Services unitwas also on the scene.
