Mayor John Tory continued his campaign to ease gridlock at some of the city's most notorious intersections Monday morning, a campaign that he insists is working.

The mayor was at the corner of Finch Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue, one of ten intersections he has identified as a "hotspot" for gridlock.

"Hotspots are hotspots, and that means time is of the essence," Torysaid.

"We have the beginnings of a gameplan to address the traffic in those different intersections."

That gameplan includes re-timing traffic signals during rush hourto ensure that traffic flows, restricting some turns, adding advance green lights and installing closed-circuit television cameras to help monitor changes in traffic flow.

It's the second phase of the mayor's war on gridlock.

Although the city has not yet gathered enough information to determine conclusively that things are improving, the mayor insisted that he's "confident that things are a lot better."

Without any of the changes he has implemented "things would've been much worse," Torysaid.
