Ontario elementary teachers start voting on proposed contract

Ontario's elementary school teachers have begun voting on the collective agreement that took more than a year to reach with the provincial government.

Voting runs until Thursday night, would be the first agreement since August 2014

Ontario's elementary school teachers have begun voting on the collective agreement that took more than a year to reach with the provincial government.

Voting opened at noon today and will run through Thursday, according to a news release.

The details of the tentative agreement reached Nov. 2 between the Elementary Teachers Association of Ontario and the province have not yet been released. The proposed dealcame after teachers and support staff had been without a contract since August 2014.

The teachers' union had been ramping up a work-to-rule campaign, which recently included abandoning extra-curricular activities and filling in report cards.

Premier Kathleen Wynne had threatened to dock the pay of employees who did not complete all their work, but an agreement was reached before that happened.
