Ontario Premier Doug Ford unveils changes to Hydro One board pay

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his government is making changes to improve the transparency and accountability of the new Hydro One board of directors.

Hydro One established its new board on Tuesday, shortly after a mass resignation.

Ford said under Hydro One'sprevious leadership, Ontario residents were forced to choose between "heating and eating" while "connected energy insiders" were getting rich. He also warned it was threatening businesses' competitiveness in the province.

"Those days are done," Ford said.

One of Ford's first moves as premier was to force out the former CEO, Mayo Schmidt.

Former CIBC executive Tom Woods will serve as the interim board chair until the new directors can convene to permanently fill the position.

Energy Minister Greg Rickfordoutlined the qualifications of the board's new members, and said their pay, or any changes to that pay,will be reviewed by Queen's Park.

Rickford said the moves are "practical" responses to what happened under the former Hydro One board.
