Pan Am still has 3,000 security guard openings to fill

The Pan Am and Parapan Am games organizers are not even halfway through hiring security guards for the 2015 games.

Contemporary Security Canada, a firm tasked with recruiting security for the games, held an open house for applicants on Thursday.

So far, it has hired 2,000 staff for the games, and aims to hire 5,000 in total.

There were long lines to get the jobs at the CSC Recruitment and Training Centre on Lakeshore Drive.

Job applicants waited in line hoping to land a security job that will pay $19 to $21 an hour from June to August next year.

First there is an application to fill out, then there is a job interview and, if all goes well, an offer of employment.

Derek Gagn is CSC's project director for the games. He says the company will pay for their training.

He also expects 100 people will be hired by the end of the day on Thursday.

The recruitment will continue until the positions are filled. The centre will be open seven days a week, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., and there will be ongoing online recruitment at securethegames.ca.
