Richmond Hill homicide victims ID'd as Karen Costa, 52, and son Jeffrey Costa, 22

The victims of an apparent murder-suicide in Richmond Hill on Thursday have been identified as Karen Costa, 52, and her son Jeffrey, 22.

The victims of what police are calling a "domestic-related homicide"in Richmond Hill on Thursday have been identified as Karen Costa, 52, and her son Jeffrey, 22, a student at theUniversity of Western Ontario.

Police say they were called to a home onDunveganDrive near Highway 7 and Yonge Street on Thursday just before 11 a.m.

When they arrived, they found a man and woman dead with "obvious signs of trauma."

York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden told CBC News investigators are not seeking any suspects, but said homicide detectives are investigating and urging any witnesses to come forward.

Police originally described the incident as a murder-suicide, but backtracked on Saturday afternoon sayingit's too early in the investigation to comment.

Well-known on campus

On Friday, the University of Western Ontarioissued a statement saying the campuscommunity is mourning Costa's death.

"Jeffrey ...was well-known by many on campus. The Western community's thoughts are with his family at this difficult time," the university's statement said.

Grief counsellors are available for any students, faculty orstaff who may need it.

The Hospital for Sick Children confirmed Saturday that Karen Costa worked as a nurse there and issued the following statement:

"Karen was a dedicated nurse and valued member of the SickKids community for 30 years. Our thoughts are with her family at this time."
