Ford ordered to pay back charity donations

Toronto mayoral candidate Rob Ford has been ordered to repay thousands of dollars in charitable donations.

Toronto mayoral candidate Rob Ford has been ordered to repay thousands of dollars in charitable donations.

City council ordered the move on Wednesday less than a week after the city's integrity commissioner found the outspoken councilor had breached the rules of conduct by using his office letterhead to seek contributions for the Rob Ford Football Foundation.

It's believed Ford will have to repay about $3,000.

In her report, Janet Leiper said Ford breached several regulations when he used his position as a city councillor during private fundraising.

Leiper said Ford improperly used his City of Toronto letterhead, his influence as a councillor, and city resources to pitch for donations to his private football foundation.

Leiper said she brought the issue to Ford's attention last December, but he didn't do anything about it.

Ford said previously he used the money raised by his charity to help the football team with equipment and start-up costs.

Last week, Ford said the money had already been spent, but he will pay it back if he has to.
