Toyota recalls 147,000 Canadian cars

Toyota Motor Corp. has recalled tens of thousands of vehicles in Canada including RX, GS and Highlander models because of links to the company's unintended acceleration problems.

Toyota Motor Corp. has recalled 147,000 vehicles in Canada includingcertain RX, GSand Highlander models because oflinksto the company's unintended acceleration problems.

The recall affects 17,000 RX vehiclesfromthe 2004 through 2006 model years,and asks owners to bring inthe vehicles to havethe driver's side floor carpet cover replaced. Some 13,000 Highlanders between those same model years are also being recalled.

An additional 850 GS vehicles from the 2006 and 2007 model years are being recalled.

The company also announced an amendment to one of its previous recalls.

To the original recall announced in late 2009, it has added:

  • 16,000 4Runners made between 2003and 2009.
  • 99,300RAV4s between the 2006 and 2010 model years.
  • 850 Lexus LX 570 RX models, 2008 through 2011.

In the United States, the company announced new recalls for 2.17 million of the samevehicles and others. Toyota USA also recalled 20,000 2006 through early 2007 GS 300 and GS 350 all-wheel drive vehicles to change the shape of a plastic pad embedded in the driver's side floor carpet that could cause pedal interference.

Since 2009, Toyota has now recalled more than 14 million vehicles globally over safety problems.

U.S. regulators said earlier this month that electronic flaws were not to blame for reports of sudden, unintended acceleration that in some cases caused fatal accidents.
