More suspects sought in Project Traveller gang probe

More than half the suspects arrested during last week's Project Traveller raids reside in Toronto and its surrounding areas, though details have not been released on all of the individuals charged or sought by police.

A Monday news release outlined the charges laid against 35 of the 44 people arrested as a result of Project Traveller, a year-long investigation into a Toronto street gang that police say dealt drugs and moved guns into Canada.

According to police, a street gang known as the Dixon City Bloods, or Dixon Goonies, had links to people in areas surrounding Toronto, as well as in other parts of the province and in Alberta.

Police launched dozens of raids last Thursday, which resulted in nearly three dozen arrests in connection with the investigation.

Twenty-two of the people arrested live in Toronto, while two others are from Mississauga, Ont., and another from Woodbridge, Ont. Seven of the accused hail from Windsor, Ont., while one man arrested lives in Detroit. Police also released the name of a man arrested who has no fixed address.

The oldest suspect arrested during Thursdays raids was a 62-year-old Toronto woman. The youngest was an 18-year-old male, who was also from Toronto.

Police said an additional nine suspects were arrested prior to the Project Traveller raids. They will be transferred to Toronto to face additional charges, at which time police intend to release their names.

Ten other suspects are still being sought, though police have yet to publicly identify them.

Police said they seized $570,000 in cash, 42 firearms and 175 kilograms of drugs during the raids.
