CBC Toronto's Stephanie Matteis got a look at a unique device that can simulate what its like to have and recover from a stroke.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in Canada, but most people still don't recognize the symptoms.

According to the Heart and Stroke foundation, one person in Canada has a stroke every 10 minutes. Strokes are caused by blocked blood vessels or bleeding in the brain, and while some can be minor others can be fatal or leave people severely disabled.

Knowing the symptoms is crucial, healthcare workers say, because the sooner a patient can be treated in hospital the better chance they'll have at recovery.

The CBC's Stephanie Matteis learns more about what strokes can look like thanks to a unique simulator in the video above.
