Teen shot in head at Eaton Centre 'doing well'

A teenaged victim of the weekend shooting at the landmark Eaton Centre was "alert and talking" after surgery for a gunshot wound to his head, his family says.

A teenaged victim of the weekend shooting at the landmark Eaton Centre was"alert and talking"after surgery for a gunshot wound to his head, his family says.

Connor Stevenson, 13, of Port Hope, Ont., had been enjoying an afternoon going to a movie with his mom and older sister when they got caught up in the bloody food-court mayhem. He was taken to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children after the shooting.

"After complicated neurosurgery, we are happy to say that he is doing well, all things considered; he is alert and talking. It will be a long healing process, but we are optimistic that he will recover," the family said in a statement.

An earlier Canadian Pressreport indicating Connor was in a medically induced coma was incorrect, said the Hospital for Sick Children, where he was staying.

Connor is in fair condition, the hospital said.
