The extreme dangers of ice water rescue training

Earlier this week, 30-year-oldAdam Brunt was killed during an ice water rescue training course in Hanover, Ont., in a tragic incident that has raised questions about the safety and dangers of programs that put students' lives at risk.

The course was administered by Newmarket-based Herschel Rescue, acompany which had a firefighter die during a similar scenario near Sarnia in 2010.

As the CBC's Natalie Kalata found out, ice water rescue is among the most dangerous activities first responders are trained in, and the companies that offer the training courses must go to great lengths to ensure the safety of students.
