Heavy rain alert ends for Toronto, thunderstorm still possible

An Environment Canada alert warning of heavy rain in Toronto Friday has ended but the forecast continues to call for rain and a possible thunderstorm.

An Environment Canada alert warning of heavy rain in Toronto Friday has ended but the forecast continues to call for rain and a possible thunderstorm.

The federal weather agency issued a special weather statement in the morning, sayingtorrential downpours were expected to start in the morning and persist until the evening.

A total of 30 to 60 millimetresof rainfall waspossible and some areas could experience higher amounts, it said.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible," the statement said. "Rainfall warnings may be issued."

The statement ended around 3 p.m. Friday, but the forecast is calling for a 40 per cent chance of rain showers in the early evening, withthe risk of a thunderstorm.
