Sixty cats rescued from "deplorable" conditions are in need of a Christmas miracle, a rescue group said.

Toronto Cat Rescue is hoping to find foster homes for the animals throughout December even if people can only take the felines for two or three weeks.

The group said until now the cats have been held in anemergency temporary shelter while they recovered. Today, they'reready to be placed in safe, loving homes until they can be matched with a long-term owner.

Toronto Cat Rescue doesnt have a permanent shelter operation. Instead, a network of foster families provide the cats with food, care and socialization, while the organization arranges spaying or neutering, as well as any further medical costs.

Anyone interested in fostering one of the cats is asked to contact Toronto Cat Rescue before Dec. 8.
