Heat warning still in effect as temperatures soar across GTA

Heat warnings from the city's medical officer and from Environment Canada are still in effect Sunday, with little relief in sight until mid-week.

Toronto Public Health has issued a heat warning for Toronto Sunday, with temperatures expected to rise above 30 C.

It's the second day of a small heat wave that could extend into Tuesday.

Environment Canada also sent out its ownheat warning for all ofsouthern Ontario from Windsor to Ottawa.

Temperatures throughout the Greater Toronto Area could reach 31 or 32 C in the midday sun both Sunday and Monday. It's not expected to fall below 20 C overnight into the work week.

Environment Canada and the City of Toronto both recommend to stay hydrated preferably with plain water and to try to find shady or cool places if you're out enjoying the warm weather.

Environment Canada is also warning people to watch out for the effects of heat-related illness including swelling, rash, cramps, fainting and the worsening of some health conditions.

Young children, the elderly, people with chronic illnesses and people who work outdoors should take extra care.

And don't leave pets in parked cars, the federal weather agency says.

Temperatures are expected to drop back closer to seasonal averages by late Tuesday or early Wednesday, and then hover in the mid-20sfor several days.
