Police identify man wanted in Toronto subway stabbing

Police have identified the suspect in a Toronto subway train stabbing near Eglinton station on Thursday.

UPDATE:Moses Lewin, 25, was located and arrested on Friday, Toronto police say.


Police have identified the suspect in a Toronto subway train stabbing near Eglinton station on Thursday.

Moses Lewin, 25, of Toronto, is wanted for attempted murder, Toronto police said in a news release on Friday. He is also wanted for aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The stabbing sent a man, believed to be in his 30s, to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.

According to police, two men got into an argument on a southbound Line 1 trainduring the noon hour.

A graphic video circulating onlineappeared to show the pair kicking and punching each other before one pulled out a knife. The man with the knife then chased the other to one end of the train while frightenedtransit riders ran to the other end.

Police said the suspect stabbed the victim several times before fleeing when the train stopped at Eglinton station.

Const. Shannon Eames, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, said on Friday that police have reviewed security camera video from the TTC.

"They are actively looking for this person," she said.

According to a police description released on Thursday, the suspectwas wearing a grey hooded sweater with "GAP" on the front, black pants, black shoes, and was carrying a green back pack.

The stabbing has renewed concerns among some transitriders about the safety of the transit system. Multiple riders told CBC Toronto on Friday they were left shaken by the news.

The incident is the latest example of violenceon the TTCin recent months. In March, 16-year-old Gabriel Magalhaeswas fatally stabbed in an unprovoked attack atKeele Station.
