Toronto weather: Wet week ahead

Flood warnings have been issued as Toronto prepares for what looks like a week of soggy weather.

Environment Canada is forecasting rainsometimes heavyin the Greater Toronto Area for at least the next six days.

Much of the wild, wet weather is associated with Hurricane Sandy, which is scheduled to pass through southern Ontario on Monday.

The Toronto Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning on Saturday.

"Rainfall amounts of approximately 15 mm to 25 mm are predicted for [Saturday], 15 mm to 20 mm for [Sunday] and an additional 10 mm to 50 mm for Monday," the authority said in a news release.

"The forecasted rainfall will result in higher flows and water levels in all our rivers and streams, creating dangerous conditions."

Strong winds are likely to accompany the storm. Environment Canada says winds will reach between 50 and 70 km/h and could even top 100 km/h in some areas.

Police are also warning driver to take extra precautions as roads are likely to become slick, or in some cases flood.

"This time of the year we have things like leaves on the road," said Staff Sgt. Brian Bowman of Toronto Police traffic services. "With all the rain there will be pooling on our expressways, our side streets, so we need people to slow down."

But Christina Marijosios said she wasn't going to be put off by a little rain.

"You just have to dress properly," she said. "Bring your umbrella, bring your rain coat."
