The Toronto Transit Commission will start selling its last batch of monthly Metropasses today, as the agency continues to make the transition to a pay system centred on renewable Presto cards.

TTC Metropasses for December go on sale today and will be available until Dec. 5. After that, monthly passes will only be available through Presto.

In a news release Thursday, the TTC says the Metropass has been a "mainstay of TTC fare payment for nearly 40 years and a regular fixture in the lives and wallets of nearly 300,000 Torontonians every month."

More than 78 million of the monthly passes have been sold since they were introduced in 1980 for a cost of $26.

The price has gone up since then, to $146.25 for adults and $116.75 for seniors and students.

The TTC says tickets and tokens will be discontinued by the end of 2019.
