The TTC has fired an employee as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged scam in which phoney and inflated receipts were submitted to the company's health benefits plan.

The TTC expects more employees will face disciplinary action, the agency said Friday in a news release. The fired employee will not be named, theTTC said.

The firing is in connection to an ongoing investigation involving Healthy Fit, a Wilson Avenue business that providesbracesand other medical devices.

In July, the owner of Healthy Fit and two employees were charged with fraud and laundering the proceeds of crime for allegedlydefrauding the TTC benefit plan of $4 million.

The TTC alleges that receipts were provided to employees by Healthy Fit for claim reimbursement "where no product or service was obtained or where receipt amounts were inflated."

The TTC also claims the health-care provider and the person making the claims would then share the money paid out by the TTC's insurer, Manulife Financial.

The news release says although the TTC is insured against benefits fraud, it will "demand full restitution from anyone found to have defrauded its benefits plan."

Two years ago, the TTC set up an anonymous hotline to gather information about employee fraud.
