Uber driver facing 2 assault charges after alleged attack this weekend

Toronto police have charged an Uber driver with two counts of assault following an incident that took placeinfront of a downtown hotel Saturday night.

The alleged assaulthappened at around 7.30 p.m.in the Harbour Square andYongeStreet area.

Toronto Police Const.Jenifferjit Sidhu told CBC News that the two victims involved were both passengers, one33-year-oldwoman and one 50-year-old woman. She said the assault took place both inside and outside the vehicle and both women suffered minor injuries, though the 50-year-old woman "suffered an injury to her left ring finger that may require surgery."

The driver, a 42-year-old male, was taken into custody and released on the same day, Sidhu said.
