Whitby-Oshawa byelection set for Feb. 11

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynnehas announced that a byelectionto fill a vacant seat in the riding of Whitby-Oshawa will take place on Feb. 11.

The riding was held by high-profile Tory Christine Elliott, who unsuccessfully ran for the party's leadership this year and lost to Brown.

She announced in August that she wasleaving provincial politics.

All three parties have nominated their candidates in Whitby-Oshawa: Niki Lundquist, a labour lawyer, will carry the NDP banner, regional councillor Lorne Coe is the PC candidate and municipalcouncillorElizabeth Roy will be the Liberalcandidate in the riding east of Toronto.

Though the byelection has not yet been formally called, the Liberals have already been running radio ads featuring Wynne promoting their candidate.

In the 30-second radio spot, Wynne says one of the things she's most proud of is that Ontario no longer burns coal to generate electricity, and now has more wind and solar power on the grid.
