Two people were sent to hospital and two others are in police custody after a fire in the downtown block of Church Street overnight.

The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the house fire at 539 Church St. at about 11 p.m.

Crews rescued one person from the third-floor attic area. Two others were taken to hospital. One of those two was treated and released, the other has been transferred to a burn unit at a London hospital.

The fire has been deemed an arson.

Windsor police and fire departments continue to investigate.

The fire happened less than 24 hours after another fire at a rooming house on Church Street, closer to Wyandotte Street.

In that case, police officers rescued at least eight people.

That fire was ruled an arson and a 42-year-old man was charged.

Windsor Fire and Rescue officials say the two fires don't appear to be related.
